you may need to ascertain whether or not a city license is also
necessary to operate your business in the state. You can call
the Business Center to for more information.
Second, you will need to acquire a tax number if the
business you intend to incorporate is sales oriented as well
as: a Withholding Tax number and an Employer ID number. You can
obtain the forms by calling the Business ServiCenter as well.
In addition, you may also wish to apply for a federal employer
ID number which you can obtain by printing out the SS-4 Form
online at the IRS website.
Third, once you decide whether your new business is a sole
proprietorship, partnership, or limited partnership, then you
can register your business name with the Register of Deeds in
the county where your business will operate. For corporations
or limited liability companies, you have to register your
business name with the North Carolina State, Corporations
Division.

find out if the business name you have chosen is available.
